Ski Alpine

The start of the 2011-12 season has been snow joke!

So we're now fully into the 2011-12 season! With Christmas and New Year in the not-so-distant past, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the epic snow and fantastic groups we have had out with us so far.

Prior to the season starting, us Ski Alpiners were in a slight panic due to the nonexistent snow in resort. We were coming up with all sorts of weird and wonderful back up plans in case of no snow - volleyball in -10°C anyone!? However, after several snow dances and just a couple of days before our first groups arrived; it miraculously started dumping it down and became the best snow on record!

The season started on 9 December with groups in Les Arcs and Val Thorens. It was a fantastic start to the season: the powder was awesome and the groups were even better! The annual snowploughing trip’s inspection of La Plagne went really well, securing some great entertainment for the week including Olympic bobsleighing, ice skating, slalom racing, bowling, bar crawls and of course great après! The whole Ski Alpine team had a go on the bobsleigh, which is something you HAVE to do if you go to La Plagne! It’s a little like a rollercoaster but it’s not every day you get to ride in a bobsleigh which was made for the 1992 Olympics – plus it's the only one in France – so definitely not to be missed.

The following weeks flew by. I headed to Avoriaz with some brilliant groups; while Mikey was in Tignes, Charlie was in Val Thorens and Chris was in Val d’Isere. The weather continued to shock us with constant snow falling and days upon days of white-outs. The powder was just fantastic to ride in even though the visibility was a little pants!

New Year in Tignes was the highlight of my season so far, with endless fireworks, laser shows at night and a DJ pumping out some absolute tunes. Tignes is renowned for its New Year parties and this was definitely the best New Year I have ever had (helped by plenty of vin chaud - mulled wine for the non-Frenchies among you)! If you ever get a chance to head to Tignes for New Year, definitely take it!

So far we've had an absolutely amazing season, with fresh powder, brilliant groups and ace nights out. I hope the Easter months will bring us much more of the same - bring on round two!
